5/8/2008 - CY2008 Almond Forecast - The initial forecast for the 2008 California Almond production is 1.46 Billion pounds. 5/2/2008 - Fig Suppliers Withdraw - Fig suppliers are withdrawing from the market due to the 2007 short crop. This is the second consecutive year Missions were short. The fig industry in general is down due to fig orchards being replaced by almonds and pistachios. New crop conventional is expected in late August and Organic Missions mid Sept.

3/10/2008 - Georgia Peanut Update - The biggest talk over the last month has been, "What will peanut acreage be for 2008 crop?" Recent commodity prices have seen wheat increase to over $24/bu., corn just short of $6/bu, soybeans around $15/bu, and, now even more critical, have just seen cotton reach almost $1/lb. 2/8/2008 - In Memory of Henk VanAmerongen Sr. - Goodbye to One of the Greats - With great sadness, we have learned of the death of Henk Van Amerongen, Sr., founder of Van Amerongen and Son, our supplier of coconut. Henk passed away after a valiant, lengthy battle with cancer on Thursday, Feb 7. Aside from being an astute businessman with impeccable veracity, Henk was a totally classy individual and a tremendous family man and friend to many. 2/7/2008 - Almond Shipment Report - ANOTHER RECORD MONTH! - The industry has set another monthly shipping record for the month of January, with shipments totaling 97.12mm lbs. Domestic shipments of 29.11mm lbs. and export shipments of 68.01mm lbs. were also record setting numbers. The industry continues to ship at a very strong pace as we approach bloom. 2/4/2008 - Sunflower Update - The sunflower market continues to rise with kernel prices well into the 80's and inshell into the 40's. Growers are reluctant to contract new crop as commodity pricing continues to advance hoping to secure the highest price possible for their yields. We expect record high prices and a small sunflower crop for '08.
1/9/2008 - Almond Shipment Report - For a seventh consecutive month, the total industry shipped a record number of almonds, 94.54mm lbs. for December. 9/5/2007 - CA Walnut Crop Forecast - Today the CASS announced the September Objective Walnut Crop Forecast. The forecast is 320,000 in-shell short tons. The CASS crop forecast, combined with the published carry-in, will provide for a total supply of 360,000 in-shell tons for the 2007-2008 marketing year. This represents a 4.76% reduction in the subjective crop estimate made by handlers in July, and a 6.1% reduction from our earlier estimates of 377,000 in-shell ton total projected supply to start the year. 7/27/07 - Michigan Cherry Crop Update - As this year's frozen cherry season opened up, the crop size estimate was 290mm lbs., meaning a lot of cherries were available for sale. However, the crop size has changed in the last few weeks. The crop is picking out short, and the crop estimate is now 246mm lbs. This is actually smaller than last year's crop of 265mm lbs., and considerably less than the initial 290mm lbs. estimate.

6/29/2007 - Almond Objective Report - The June 29, 2007 objective almond forecast for the 2007-2008 crop year is 1.330 billion meat pounds, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service – California Field Office (NASS/CFO). 6/25/07 - New Jersey Blueberry Crop - NJ blueberry growers are expecting a good year barring any unforeseen situations. The New Jersey Blueberry Industry Advisory council organized an aggressive marketing campaign intended to create trade and consumer awareness and demand for New Jersey blueberries, reported The Produce News June ' 07.
6/25/07 - Cherry Update - US tart cherry production is forecast at 294 million lbs, 11% above 2006 production. Michigan, the largest producing state, expects a crop of 230 million lbs, up 21% from 2006. A severe freeze on April 7-8 destroyed the majority of the tart cherry flower buds in the southwest portion of the state, while there was less damage in west central Michigan, according to the USDA's Cherry Production Report. 6/1/07 - Sunflower Crop Progress - The USDA crop report for w/e 5/27/07 is out. Weather has not been perfect but sunflowers are 61% planted, ahead of the 5-year average. Sunflowers are typically planted last and the report shows that planting for most of the other crops is almost complete. The USDA planting report, what growers say they actually planted, comes out June 30, 2007. We expect a small sunflower crop with no carry over. Prices are high. USDA Report
5/10/07 - Blueberry Crop Update - The demand for Wild Blueberries has continued to increase even at the prices we experienced last year. There is no excess inventory to be carried into the new harvest by the wild industry, and cultivated may have a minimal amount unsold.
